Audi S8 is an executive sedan produced by the Audi Sport GmbH division of the German concern Audi AG since 1996. The car appeared a couple of years after the debut of the huge executive A8 and, in fact, is its sports version. The combination of the respectability of an executive car with the uncompromising speed of a fast sports car made it a real "Lord of the 4 Rings" and allowed it to compete on equal terms with Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Today, the S8 is one of the most high-tech premium cars.
"Better than the competition!" — the A8 sedans were created under this motto. They received a lightweight aluminum alloy body, the legendary quattro permanent all-wheel drive, which effectively distributed all the herds of the engine to the wheels. The 8-series sedan with the S index was distinguished by a 2 cm lower clearance and a more powerful (360 hp) engine. The successful release of the new Audi S8 was helped by the filming of the film "Ronin" with Robert de Niro, Jean Reno and Sean Bean. I especially remember the scene where the mighty sedan effectively slid outward in a sharp turn with four wheels, showing the possibilities of a noble all-wheel drive, then powerfully rushed forward. Well, how can you not want such a thing!

In addition, S8 starred in many other films: "The Matrix", "The Carrier", "Analyze this", "Hostage". The Audi S8 from the movie "Carrier 3" (with Jason Statham) is not exactly an S8, but a unique cinematic hybrid based on the A8 6.0 W12 quattro. From the S8, it has only mirrors and aluminum elements in the cabin, and the radiator grille and wheel rims are from another model. In the latest movie "The Carrier. Legacy", where Frank Martin is played by Ed Skrein, the hero, along with dangerous goods, is already being carried by a real Audi S8 — black, with silver mirrors characteristic of the "S" models (and, of course, interchangeable license plates). Again, the quattro all-wheel drive capabilities are used to the fullest in the film, the chase scenes brought a lot of pleasure to fans of the brand and genre. Do you remember how a sedan, sliding its rear axle, intentionally hits a water pump and drifts on spilled water on wet asphalt? Or catching up with the plane… You can't think of a better advertisement!
The first generation
The first-generation Audi S8 was produced from 1996 to 2003. It was equipped with a 4.2-liter V8 engine with 340 hp, a 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic with manual Tiptronic mode. The large four-wheel drive sedan accelerated to the first hundred in 6.2 seconds. Its dimensions corresponded to the executive class: length 5034 mm, width 1880 mm, height 1418 mm, wheelbase 2882 mm. The curb weight was 1,730 kg. In 1999, the car was updated and received an increase in engine power to 369 liters. S., which made it even faster: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h decreased to 5.6 seconds even though the curb weight increased to 1,845 kg.
Second generation
It was produced from 2006 to 2010. The second S8 was equipped with a 5.2 l V10 engine, which developed 450 hp (the same was installed on the Lamborghini Gayardo of the same year). The box is a 6-step type-tronic. The maximum speed was electronically limited to 250 km/h. Acceleration to a hundred took only 5.1 seconds. The second generation turned out to be slightly larger than its predecessor: the length was 5062 mm, width — 1894 mm, height — 1424 mm, wheelbase — 2944 mm. Curb weight — 1940 kg.
The third generation

Presented in 2011 in Frankfurt. The third Audi S8 had a V8 TFSI engine. This 4-liter unit produced 520 hp, combined with an 8-speed type-tronic and accelerated the sports sedan to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds. The body length was 5146 mm, width - 1949 mm, height — 1458 mm. The wheelbase is 2994 mm. Curb weight — 2050-2065 kg. In 2013, the car underwent a facelift, and in 2016, the S8 plus version appeared - more powerful, with a "herd" of 605 hp and accelerated in 3.3 seconds. An optional dynamic package could be installed on it, and then the sedan could take the maximum speed limit of 306 km/h.
The fourth generation
The latest current generation was released in 2019. The new Audi S8 traditionally received a 4-liter V8 TFSI gasoline turbo engine, which produces 571 hp and 800 Nm of torque, which is noticeably more than the previous generation model (520 hp and 650 Nm). But now the new S8 has a 48-volt hybrid superstructure: the starter generator starts the engine, carrying out the operation of the "Start-stop" system, which helps in the first seconds of acceleration. The motor gives its strength to an 8-speed automatic transmission, which distributes it to all wheels (permanent quattro all-wheel drive). Audi has equipped all S8s with an active rear differential, steerable rear wheels and suspension on pneumatic elements.
Up to the first hundred Audi S8 2020/2021 accelerates in 3.8 seconds, the maximum speed, as before, is limited at around 250 km / h. Externally, the sports car is distinguished from the "regular" A8 by silver rear-view mirrors, a special wheel design with a diameter of 21 inches and four round exhaust pipes. And the car has an extended version. The interior of the sports executive sedan received a special carbon fiber decor with a three-dimensional effect, although customers can choose a standard design style. Plus, the interior is decorated with appropriate nameplates with the letter "S".
Restyling in 2021
In December 2021, the car underwent a facelift that updated its appearance. The company from Ingolstadt did not make deep changes, especially technical ones, because the performance of the car is already at a high level. As well as the basic A8, the updated S8 received new lighting technology with a digital matrix front and rear OLED lights. The interior is standard like the classic versions, with the exception of the S-line sports steering wheel and seats. The newest Audi S8 2022 has a luxuriously decorated interior, a spacious and comfortable interior, stunning technical characteristics, as well as a wide range of innovative digital solutions in the field of multimedia.
